EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Education is a key element in helping reduce the amount of waste that ends up in our landfills. That is why Raven Recycling Society offers an education component to its customers through an Education Coordinator.

Tours for individuals or groups as well as presentations are made available free of charge to anyone interested in learning more about recycling or worm composting. Programming assistance as well as activities to engage and inform students, parents and the general public in a variety of Recycling areas are available.

Larger programs such as the garbage free lunch contest in schools and Zero Waste Events including collection stations and commercial pick up services are also offered.

Danny Lewis, Raven’s Education Coordinator, has been working with Raven Recycling for 4 years. Prior to this position he worked as an owner/operator of another recycling company in Whitehorse for 11 years. He has a background in Early Childhood Education and has been working with foster children and special needs adults since a child. He has traveled the globe and, after experiencing the waste creation and disposal methods of many cultures around the world, he decided to try and help educate people on the importance of reducing their waste footprint and learning not only to recycle what they have,  but produce less in the first place. He admits that he is not a shining example of recycling behavior and knows he has a long way to go on being a Zero Waste citizen of this planet.  Still, he strives towards improving his lifestyle and surroundings through recycling, while showing others that it is possible, and how it can be done.

Danny is available to help education the Yukon on recycling practices and methods and to help encourage all Yukoners to reduce their waste and prolong the health of our great planet.
