Burning Garbage

Burning garbage, whether in the backyard or at municipal waste management facilities, releases thousands of pollutants- dioxins, furans, arsenic mercury, PCBs and lead. These chemicals are linked to cancer, thyroid problems, diabetes, developmental problems and heart disease. Learn more here...

Tours

The Raven Recycling Society offers of both the recycling centre and the City of Whitehorse landfill. These tours can be suited for particpants aged from 4 to 104. Contact the education coordinator for details. Advance bookings are required, and all participants of landfill tours will have to sign a City of Whitehorse waiver.

Waste Not, Want Not Newspaper Columns

Thanks to the generosity of the Yukon News, who provide free space, the Raven Recycling Society publishes a weekly column on a variety of waste managment topics. Some of the columns are listed below.

All columns up until Feb 18th, 2005 are Adobe PDF files, and are about 100 kb in size. After that they are MS Word documents. Use the Google search engine at the top of the Raven web pages to search for topics just within the Raven website (eg. typing in compost will provide all the Raven columns and Raven web pages that mention compost).
